TOAST BAND - Mrs. Amy Vargo
Band is available for students in grades 3 through 5. Each student receives a 30 minute small group lesson every week. Once they know the first six notes on their instrument and all the rhythms up to eighth notes (page 15 in Measures of Success Book One), students may participate in the full ensemble. The ensemble rehearses once a week for 30 minutes.
School owned instruments are limited. Parents are encouraged to participate in the local music store's rent-to-own program, or purchase a new or used instrument for their child from any number of places. Mrs. Vargo is happy to help parents through the process of purchasing an instrument.
Students are expected to practice at home as instructed. Students who participate
in full band rehearsals need to practice not only their method book, but their
band music as well.

Practice! Practice! Practice!
All of Mrs. Vargo's band students are required to practice the songs assigned to them in their instrument lessons. First year students should practice the songs in their book for 15 minutes every day. Second and Third year students should practice the songs in their book for approximately 10-15 minutes, and their concert music for 10-15 minutes every day. Improvement requires regular practice, and is best accomplished when it is made part of a routine at home. For example, always play your instrument after completing your written homework, or always before dinner is ready. Choose a time that works and stick to it!
